CHAIR UPDATE
Strava Events

Over the last few months the club has consistently seen a turn out of between 35 and 45 runners choosing to head out and join in in one of the many run options that we offer up on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

Now that the days are longer we want to try and offer up a more varied and structure calendar.

In order to make this a success it would help the run leaders to get an understanding of the level of interest for each session so that they may be suitably prepared and ensure that the session is adequately supported.

So with that in mind we shall be trialing the use of Strava Events over the next few weeks to promote and plan the sessions we have in mind.

The use of Strava Events is not intended to replace any methods of communication that we have currently have in place so those who are not on Strava will not miss out on any information and will not be excluded from any session.

It is thought, however, that with 90% of our members using Strava the use of Strava Events will allow the club an effective method of promoting sessions, understanding interest, planning run leader schedules and balancing group sizes with those on Strava being notified via email new sessions that they may be interested in.

After a few weeks of using Strava Events I will be looking to gather feedback to see if this has proven to be a useful method of communicating the sessions and weather it is something that we should continue to use.

Mickleover and Sinfin Running Club Takeover

Over the last few weeks I have been working with Sinfin Running Club to see if we can support the Markeaton Parkrun by doing a takeover sometime over the summer months.

As clubs we have many members who take part in this Parkrun on a regular basis and so we feel that doing a takeover would be a great way to give something back.

Taking over a Parkrun is no small feat, however, and requires a significant number of volunteers to make it a success.

Individually as clubs we didn’t think we could manage this on our own, however together we do feel that we can make a real success of it.

So I am putting the call out. If you would like to volunteer or if you have experience in volunteering for Parkrun, could you please get in touch we me so that we can make this a real success.

‘Every weekend should be a long weekend’
– think we can all agree on this one!

Session Changes: Many of you know that I am currently part way through undertaking my Coaching in Running Fitness qualification (CiRF – next step up from the Leaders) – 3 days done, 1 to go.

The final day is an assessment day, and to help me (which will help some of you) I need to deliver planned & structured sessions (similar to those that Chris from the EA has delivered).

I have discussed this with Ross, and with his approval I will be undertaking planned and structured training sessions from 7-8pm on a few Tuesdays however these will be limited to 10 -12max members.

As a result, I will not be leading any of the general run groups during this period. Hope you can understand these changes, but it will also benefit the club, its members as well as myself in the long term.

If you are interested to take part in these sessions, they can be ‘booked’ on Strava – however, I do have 4 members who I have been working with who (Marc, Paul W, Ray & Kellie) who do take precedence as they have started the whole coaching process with me.

If you can’t make it, please let me know so I can open these out to others who might have interest.

Race Results

12th May saw the 2nd race in the Club Champs (1st in the DRS) as 20 members met up at Elvaston for the Sinfin Classic 10k.

Our members did us proud, and that is all that really matters – how our members run. First home was Ross, followed by Andy F with Steve R the first three to finish. Lee, Nic, Richard and Paul D were close by – all making it into the top 100. Clive on his 20th event of the year (think he PB’ed again!), with Simon, Ian, Paul, Rob making up the Mens runners. With the Ladies, Emma was again our first lady home ahead of Raj, Vicky & Rowan (making a welcome return). Lucy (back from her hols), Kathryn, Nic & Kelly all completed the run – excellent runs by all.

As for the Club Champs – I will update the scores/tables soon – just waiting for the official results to be released as I know there were some issues with the results on the day. Final reminder, Club Champs are for EA Affiliated members only, so if you want your scores to count and are not an EA affiliated member you can upgrade your membership at any time 😊

19th May – Carsington:
Well our first finisher was Hannah Jones, who clearly wasn’t affected by the ups & downs of the hills (which are very much like those in Wales - ok, slightly smaller), finishing just ahead of both Matt Buller & Ross. Just a few mins later, Andy F was our 4th runner followed by Emma, Chris H, Raj, Ben R, Lucy, Sally A, Rowan, & Paul W making up (from provisional results) all of our club members running at this event. This is the second event in the DRS – and the results for both Sinfin & Carsington will be updated in a couple of weeks on the DRS Site – and I’ll try and get the info from there as soon as I can.

Overall, the club has had 3 busy weekends of running, and for many – a bit of a break is needed, but many congrats to all who have run during this very busy period.

Meanwhile, over in Holland, Sarah B and a friend (whose training had not gone to plan) completed the Leiden Marathon. Sarah, being Sarah, ran the event with her friend looking after her the whole way round – but they did it! That’s what really matters, is the finish!

Thunder Run! Good luck to all who will be running in whatever event and wherever it may be. Away from racing, there are other events planned for the club and the members over the next few weeks:
4th June
Ross is organising an away day, a run session away from the RBL, he is finalising the route, but I believe it is going to be based around Lees. Thus on the 4th, Club session is from Lees and my merry coaching group at the RBL.
11th June
the 3rd and final session that will be led by EA Coach Chris Hollinshead – these have proved to be very different and enjoyable by the members
18th June
Running Form from Burton will hopefully be joining us to briefly talk shoes (esp for those running the Thunder Run) and kit in general! – TBC!
25th June
Heartwize, a charity providing CPR for runners, will be attending the club for a session. This will take place at 8pm, so there will only be 4mile runs on offer that evening. Please speak to Vicky for more details/enrolling. So, a busy month for the club! Alan & Vicky Capt

Rob Humber’s Stagathon
AUG 31

As you may be aware there is a MRC wedding this year when Rob Humber marries Kathryn Pound.

Apart from the big day itself there is another important day which is the stag doo.

As I am best man what else could we do other than a MRC running stag doo?

The plan is for a half marathon (pls feel free to run more) starting and finishing at the Vine Inn in Mickleover including stops at numerous pubs en route (drinking alcohol is mandated).

Route, pubs etc will be published nearer the time. Sorry ladies but also in traditional stag doo etiquette it is for MRC MEN ONLY.

I hope you can make it to send Rob off in style!! 😁🏃‍♂️🍻🍻🍻
