Summer Rambles…

As often is the case, August sees many of the club members heading off on holidays as such this newsletter is a little on the short side as the Editors have also been off too.

The Summer break didn’t stopped MRC turning our in force for this years PIGGS 10K event which was held on Wednesday 7th August.

34 of the club members (which is over a quarter of the club) ran the local 10k event (which is in the Club Champs), many achieving PB’s and running faster than they did at last years event.

Matt and Andrew finished in the top 10 and Hannah was the first lady home across the entire field...a good 3 minutes ahead of the next female finisher – fantastic achievement...well done!.

The Club Champs table will be updated soon (once the results have been finalised) but with 3 races to go it’s all up for grabs!

For details of the Club Champs (and for those of you are recent new members) the details are here:

Derby Cross Country Mini League

The Club takes part in a smaller XC Champs (to that of the County league) which has around 10 to 15 local East Midlands clubs taking part.

Everyone who has ran in the races have really enjoyed them and we encourage all our members to try and give it a go...if you haven’t ran XC since you were at school...well...it’s not that much different...it’s just this time you’re doing it through choice!!

The races are open to all club members and tend to be between 5 and 6 miles across trails / muddy paths and fields (depending on the weather!).

The key dates (note some are to be confirmed) for your diary are:

• October 20 or 27th: Anslow
• November 24th: Cliff Lakes (Peel Road Runners)
• December 15th: Shipley (Smalley Road Runners)
• January 12th or 19th: Allestree (Derwent Runners)
• February 2nd: Conkers (South Derbyshire)
• March 8th: Sinia or Hatton

We will provide more information in a future newsletter but a couple of things worth thinking about:

• Runners must compete in club shirts…so if you haven’t got one now is the time to get your order in
• Runners are highly recommended to wear running spikes….these trainers can be purchased a lot more cheaply than road running trainers and when you are running in mud are an absolute must!

New Positions available at Mickleover Running Club

Would you like to help shape the growth, success and direction of Mickleover Running Club? As a club we are always on the lookout for volunteers to help with the club and take us forward.

Very soon we shall be looking for a new Club Captain and Run Co-Ordinator with both roles being central to the success of the club.

Working with the clubs committee the Run Co-Ordinator and Club Captain ensure that we not only provide fun, friendly and safe runs week in and week out but we also compete and represent ourselves to the best of our ability irrespective of where we actually finish.

If you are interested in either of these roles, and would like to find out more or interested in supporting the club in any other way please do not hesitate to get in touch with my self.
